A running cadence app by Alterras LLC
Onbeat Running is a cadence app for iPhone and Apple Watch. A steady metronome, tuned to the tempo you set, helps you run in step with the beat. Full workouts on Apple Watch record heart rate and calories to Apple Health, and every completed session is saved as a workout in the Health app on your device.
Is Onbeat free?
Yes, from version 1.1. Run, Train, Cadence Builder and History are free for everyone on iPhone and Apple Watch, with no trial and nothing to unlock. Onbeat is part of our mission, and it stays free because people choose to support it. If you have an earlier version, update Onbeat once 1.1 is in the App Store. Earlier versions start with a 7 day free trial and then offer a one time purchase.
How can I support Onbeat?
From version 1.1, on iPhone, open Onbeat's Settings and tap Support Onbeat at the top. From there you can Buy me a coffee (an optional tip), leave feedback on the App Store, or join the newsletter. A tip is a one off in app purchase through Apple. It unlocks nothing; every feature is already yours. You can tip as often as you like.
I bought Onbeat before it was free. What happens now?
From version 1.1 every feature is open, and there is nothing to restore or renew. Thank you for supporting it early.
On an earlier version and got a new device?
In versions before 1.1, open the purchase screen and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you bought with. From version 1.1 there is nothing to restore.
Can I get a refund?
Tips and past purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves, but please email us anyway if something went wrong. We would like to know.
My workout does not show up in Apple Health.
Onbeat only writes a workout when a session finishes. Sessions you end early may not be saved. If completed sessions still do not appear, open Settings, then Health, then Data Access and Devices, then Onbeat, and confirm the app is allowed to write workout data.
The metronome is too quiet or too loud.
Onbeat uses your device volume. Adjust the volume buttons while a session is running. Inside the app you can also change the tone (Click, Pulse, Knock, Tap) to one that cuts through better against your music or your environment.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. Onbeat works fully on iPhone on its own. If you have an Apple Watch, the workout app on the Watch records heart rate and calories to Apple Health while a session runs.
What data does Onbeat collect?
None from version 1.1. Earlier versions include an optional feedback form; see the Privacy Policy. There are no accounts, no ads, and no analytics or usage tracking. Onbeat does not send any information about you or your runs to any server we run. It goes online only when you ask it to: to leave a tip (handled by Apple), or to open the community board, the newsletter or the App Store. Your runs, settings, and session history stay on your device. Workouts are written to Apple Health on your device and are never sent to us. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
How do I turn off Apple Health access?
Open Settings, then Health, then Data Access and Devices, then Onbeat. From there you can turn any permission off. Onbeat will still run; it just will not read or write those items.
I have a feature request or found a bug.
Post it on the Onbeat community board, or tap Request a feature or report a bug at the top of Onbeat's Settings on iPhone. Others can vote on it there, and you'll see when it ships. Prefer email? Write to aziza@alterras.app. Onbeat is made by one person, and real requests shape what gets built next.
Email aziza@alterras.app. We read every message.
